Centerbeam Car

The prototype for this kit is the Thrall "Opera" style centerbeam described in the May 1983 Mainline Modeler.

The Inside Length is 60' 8".

These cars were originally built for BN. UP and MILW. Similar cars were later built for Trailer Train and WP. Several websites have photos of the prototype cars.

Decals for these cars are available from Gilmaur in Black and White lettering.   (see Product Summary)

An etched Bracket Set is included in the kit to aid in modeling a generic AB Brake Gear installation (Brake castings not supplied).

Simpler Brake Gear arrangements were used on some cars.

Note the 'keyholes' in the side braces which hold the ends of the cables used to retain the load.  The Overland import does not have these details!
