The prototype for this kit is the Thrall well car described in the October 1992 Railroad Model Craftsman. This car has an Inside Length of 48 feet and two trucks- it is not designed to be articulated. It can be set up as a "stand-alone" car or connected by drawbars into a three-unit set. The well can carry a single 40' or 48' container, or two 20' units. One container, ranging in length from 40' to 53', can be carried on top. The kit is designed to handle the K-Line containers which at 8' 3.7" are slightly over scale width for an 8' container (and slightly under for the 8' 6" one). The advantage is that 20', 40', and 48' containers are available at reasonable prices. Containers are not supplied with the kit. |
