Subject: Commendation
The purpose is to COMMEND Mike Calvert's effort in producing what I feel is a wonderful Alco S-2 kit.
I bought one some time ago and, like many of us, kept putting off the building of it. I wish, now, that I had started the day that I brought it home. It has been an absolute pleasure in assembly. Everything went together as it was designed to, no hitches what-so-ever.
Enough said------3 cheers to you Mike ! ! !

His RS1 is an excellent kit too and at a very fair price.

John, [Whittle] I'm sure that you will ENJOY putting the engine kit together as did I.

Subject: Gilmaur RS-1 Commendation
Dear John,   With your experience, one of Mike's kits will almost fall together for you.

I second Ed's recommendation.

Here's a couple pics------I'm really pleased w/his kit.

[see Ed's photo of his S-2]
You'd better get one 'fore they're gone. Very easy build.

Nice job Ed!    Real little beauty.

Kyle. A.

Thank you, but the "nice job" goes to Calvert, not me. The kit just flows together.

Subject: LWS(?) RS-1
In 1976, probably the only RS-1 was the Locomotive Workshop kit  […] someone has a LWS kit currently on eBay for $100.
I think if it were half of that I'd still pay the extra for one of Mike Calvert's kits.

Re:Shipping (OT)

Twice I've ordered Gilmaur etched brass kits from Mike Calvert in England. 3000 miles each way (I live in Suburban Maryland, just outside Washington, DC) and it was less than 2 weeks from the day I posted the order to the day I received the kits. One time the kit was mailed from England and the second time the kit was sent by commercial carrier from Chicago. In both cases the check got to England in less than a week and the kits got to me in shortly thereafter. And in both cases the kits were delivered in pristine condition, no damage to either the kits or the packaging. One kit came by mail and one kit came by private carrier. I'm sure the postal service was less expensive, and the service and quality of service was equivalent.

I just bought one of his brass S-2 kits and will likely buy one of his RS-1 kits later this year. Good price, good, fast service. I mailed him a check from Maryland, had the kit in my hands within two weeks, all the way from England. CLW drives are available for both models.

Can someone give me Mike Calvert's email address?

I understand he's the effort behind Gilmaur kits. I have one of his exquisite S-2 kits and want to ask him some questions.

I've really enjoyed building it, everything went together very, very well once I'd identified some of the parts and the positions where they fit.......This is the first American prototype loco kit I've built. I found the instructions were quite adequate and I've no complaints.

I'm really happy with the end product and once painted, it will really look the part.

Editorial from O Scale Trains Issue #2

Joe Giannovario (Editor/Publisher) wrote nominating me as a 'Service Hero' which was very nice of him.

Too embarrassing to include here but I hope it encourages first time customers to deal with someone so far away.
